What is Rhodium plating ?

We pride ourselves on offering high-quality jewellery that stands out from the rest. One of the reasons why we choose not to rhodium plate our white gold jewellery is because we believe in using white gold that is truly white. Rhodium plating is a common practice in the jewellery industry, especially for mass-produced engagement rings and diamond rings, to enhance the appearance of white gold. While this process can initially make jewellery these rings look more brilliant and shiny, it is not a permanent solution.

White gold, which is an alloy of yellow gold and other white metals, such as nickel, silver, and palladium, often results in a white gold alloy with a slightly yellowish hue. To achieve a brighter, whiter appearance, jewellery is coated with a thin layer of rhodium, a precious metal that is part of the platinum family. However, over time, this plating will wear off, revealing the original color of the white gold underneath.
This can result in a yellowish patchy tint, necessitating the Jewelry to be re-plated periodically.

There is a scenario where rhodium plating can be useful, and that is in restoration where the appearance of worn, imperfections, or discoloration, can be covered with Rhodium, giving the jewellery a fresh new look which is a cheaper alternative to a complete remake. Though as stated it is important to note that rhodium plating is not permanent and may wear off over time.

We have chosen to take a different approach.
We use a white gold alloy meticulously formulated to be naturally white. Although it is slightly grey compared with platinum our white gold doesn’t require rhodium plating. By using this superior-quality white gold, our jewellery maintains its pure and timeless elegance without the need for frequent re-plating.

Moreover, not rhodium plating our white gold jewellery allows for a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach. Rhodium is a precious metal that is scarce and expensive. By eliminating the need for rhodium plating, we minimize the use of this resource.

In conclusion, we choose not to rhodium plate our white gold jewellery because we believe in using white gold that is truly white. Our carefully crafted white gold alloy maintains its brilliance and lustre over time, without the need for frequent and costly re-plating.
